Golf Course Playing Guide by David Williams Club Professional |
st Hole - 368m Par 4 (index 9) A generous fairway for the opening hole but a strategically placed drive down the left side of the fairway is still required. The green is guarded on the right hand side by some big gum trees. The green slopes significantly from back to front and left to right so your shot into the green is ideal if left below the hole.
nd Hole - 403m Par 4 (index 1) The toughest hole on the course and for very good reason. The drive is one of the most demanding on the course. A dogleg left and a narrow fairway makes this one of the hardest fairways on the course to hit. Long hitters should think about placement of their drive rather than length here. The shot into the slightly raised green usually plays at least 1 club longer. The green slopes to the right side and is guarded by several bunkers. A four on this hole will feel like a birdie.
rd Hole - 296m Par 4 (index 17) A good short par 4 which requires careful thought about the drive. Golfers can choose to lay up their shot off the tee to avoid the water, or very long hitters may be tempted into going for the green here with their drive, if the conditions are right. The green is guarded on either side by 2 bunkers which are difficult to get your sand save. Best place to miss this green is just short.
th Hole - 377m Par 4 (index 5) A good solid par 4 again with a tough tee shot. For the longer hitters, a draw is required as a ball hit towards the right hand side of the fairway may be blocked out from the green by the trees near the green. The shot into the green always plays 1 extra club up the hill. A par on this hole is always good score.
th Hole - 126m Par 3 (index 15) The shortest hole on the course but it comes with some danger. Hitting the green here is only the start of your worries with a big slope from back to front. The bunkers guarding the green are fairly deep and a sand save here is a job well done. Leave your tee shot below the hole here for your chance at birdie otherwise 3 is a good score.
th Hole - 400m Par 4 (index 3) A dogleg right, longer hitters should think about their club choice off the tee or play a fade around the corner. The green is guarded on both sides by bunkers and players short avoid short siding themselves in the bunker closest to the pin. A par here is well earned.
th Hole - 436m Par 5 (index 16) It's GO time. A good straight drive here will set up a good birdie chance for most. There isn't too much trouble on this hole as long as you stay out of the woods. The shot into the green is a little uphill so factor that into your club selection. Think birdie here!
th Hole - 375m Par 4 (index 2) A sharp dogleg right, that you can either lay up to the corner or take on the trees. If you are taking on the trees make sure your drive is well right of the left bunker as you risk running out of fairway. The 2nd shot is fraught with danger with several bunkers guarding the undulating green. Making par can be a rewarding feeling.
th Hole - 154m Par 3 (index 11) An elevated tee shot back towards the clubhouse. Attention to the wind conditions is critical as a promising shot can be significantly affected when your ball nears the green. A well guarded green that will make you work for your par.
th Hole - 367m Par 4 (index 8) The back 9 opens with 4 fairly tough holes. Get through these 4 holes around your handicap and you are in business. The tee shot on the 10th hole should be positioned on the right half of the fairway to open up the green on this slight dogleg left. There is nothing too sinister with the green with the only consideration being the out of bounds fence that is just right and long of the green.
th Hole - 373m Par 4 (index 6) A dogleg right, the place to position your tee shot is on the left side of the fairway. There is a tree guarding the right hand side of the green and a bunker on the left. 2 accurate shots are needed to find the green here. The green is fairly flat so a good chance to hole a putt here.
th Hole - 160m Par 3 (index 10) A solid par 3 which requires perfect club selection and nerves of steel as the South Gippsland Highway looms for any wayward shot. The 2 tier green will test any golfer who is not on the same level as the pin. A par here and you can hold your head high.
th Hole - 382 Par 4 (index 4) The wide fairway can lure golfers into a false sense of security on this hole. Golfers will need to position their drive to the left side of the fairway to open the green up. The fairway narrows considerably near the green and an accurate shot in is required. The green is deceptively long so if the pin is on the top tier leaving yourself on the front can lead to 3 putts quite easily.
th Hole - 288m Par 4 (index 14) An iron to the corner is the play here. A tee shot of about 180m from the tee to the right side of the fairway will leave you with no more than 100m in and a chance to stick it close. A good birdie chance on this hole.
th Hole - 147m Par 3 (index 13) A fairly straight forward par 3 with the only danger being the greenside bunkers. Play for the left half of the green and avoid the bunker on the right. A good birdie chance if you hit the middle of the green
th Hole - 348m Par 4 (index 7) The tee shot starts through a narrow chute but opens out into a wide fairway if you can successfully negotiate the trees. The uphill shot, to a back to front sloping green, should be left below the hole. A par here is a good score.
th Hole - 411m Par 5 (index 18) One of the shortest par 5's you will probably play but by no means the easiest. The drive is fraught with danger as you can easily run out of fairway here or the trees either side are fairly heavily wooded. Left side of the fairway is best here. If you do manage to find the fairway with your tee shot the next shot towards the green through a very narrow chute. The green slops from back to front significantly and golfers should try and leave their ball below the hole.
th Hole - 299m Par 4 (index 12) A good short par 4 to finish with here. The drive should be laid up short of the fairway bunker which will leave you with around 100m into the elevated green. The deep greenside bunker should be avoided at all costs when playing into this green. The green itself slopes back to front and right to left. Any ball above the hole can be a very quick putt. |
